A sentimental journey to Zuidlaren, a small village in Drente, the Netherlands. This is the place where my mother was born, where she grew up and where my grandmother lived almost all her life. The rock, labelled Beatrixplein, has been there for as long as we all can remember and we spent several holidays playing in the park around it. These rocks (or dolmens) are commonly found in Drente. They were transported to the area during the last Ice Age and remained as debris when the glaciers melted away. Our ancestors, who build the famous “Hunebeds”, used many of them.
Hunebeds served as burying place during the Stone Age.
